Configure windows 7 and Windows XP Firewall to Allow Port

So what are you trying to get through the Windows firewall?
So many thing need to be configured such as networking activity like remote administrator and network tools and programming.

First Assume your using the Windows7 firewall.

Make sure you do all this as admin
First you need to get into the firewall in control panel. On the side there is "advanced settings" click it.
Now you want to select "inbound rules" and then click "new rule..." on the right hand side.
Select port and add the port details. You probably want to repeat the process for "outbound rules" also making sure you select "allow the connection".

Second Assume your using the Windows XP firewall.

1.Open the 'Control Panel' and select 'Windows Firewall'
2.Click on the 'Exceptions' tab
3.Click on the 'Add Port...' button
4.Enter a name for this exception such as 'GFI FAXmaker'
5.Under the Port Number enter '25' and ensure that 'TCP' is selected
6.Click 'OK' to save changes
7.Ensure that the new exception created is checked under 'Programs and Services'
8. Click 'OK' to close the configuration

I have a problem with NOD32 in Windows 7. It seems to block my wifi access and I am confused if its the NOD32 blocking it or the win7 firewall.

Can anyone educate me? thnks

I think this procedure should be done with extreme caution. Opening ports without fully understanding what you are dealing with can leave your network vulnerable to being exploited.

If you go into the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" Panel, you can select "Inbound Rules"; "New Rule" (located on the right side of interface); Under rule type select the radio for "Port" and hit next; Select the radio for "Specific Local Ports". This is where I opened up notepad and started typing the range out separating each port with a comma. When that is done, copy and paste the ports into the list for "Specific Local Ports" and hit next. This is the easiest way I have found. Easier than that would be to go into something like Excel for spreadsheet, and have it list all the ports separated by commas given the range 6881-6999. If you are savvy enough to do that anyway. I'm not sure of the semantics involved, as I had already typed all of them out before realizing there was an easier way.
